The powers of the internet are vast and mysterious. Using these awesome powers at my command, I was looking at who was visiting Scwonkey.com and found what I think is one of my first search engine referrals -- from a person in the city of Liberal, Kansas.
Liberal is on the extreme other end of the state of Kansas -- far, far to the west and right by the southern border. For those who don't know where little ol' P-burg, where I live, is, it's in the far southeast corner of the state, about fifteen minutes from the southern border; Liberal is even closer to the Kansas-Oklahoma border. Like, right on top of it.
Now, since whoever it is spelled it right, and they're in Kansas, I can't help but think, "Is this someone I knew in high school?" I mean, I think it's gotta be. Because what they plunked into the Yahoo search box is "Scwonkey Dog.com". And of course, the first thing that comes up is ... well, you know.
(For the record, the second one is a cached copy of the 2007 "I made this on Dreamweaver and it was still a pain to update" webpage. The third is the t-shirt at Cafepress.)
This is driving me bonkers. Kooky-in-the-head. Someone this afternoon, on a whim, plunked that into the search box and read the entire first chapter in about twenty minutes. And they got to the first page of Chapter 2, and in book terms, put it down. Maybe bookmarked it? I dunno. I'll just have to study the logs.
Yes, folks, I'm watching you. It's creepy, I know. But as a person who spends so much time creating this stuff -- and I'm going to leave the computer to start penciling the Issue #2 cover once this blog post is posted up, so yeah, it's pretty much taken over the vast majority of my free time -- I am intensely curious about my readership. There are only a few people I know for sure are reading Scwonkey Dog right now -- the one miscreant who keeps posting in the comments (hi, Tol!), my fellow comics conspirator, one of my elementary school students, and ...
Well, there's a couple of people who I know set up their blog feed tools to get a notification I put something new up. (This is why I waited on Friday 'til the afternoon, when I had the page done, before I put up a post; it was a courtesy to them.) That was exciting to discover. And then usually once a day, someone pops over and actually reads through most of the archive, most of the now-thirty-three pages. And then sometimes they come back the next day, and just sorta look at it.
I guess they see something there. I have no idea what it is, but I guess they do.
Anyway, so yes, there's a mysterious person halfway across the state who can spell Scwonkey and plunked it into the Yahoo search box and read twenty-two, maybe twenty-three pages today. My mind is boggled. I'm half-tempted to write something 'bout it on the site on Wednesday, but I dunno ... maybe they'll just surf over here and see this and say hi? I dunno.
